               Simple QRP (MAS-) Homebrew Projects

Dear QRP friends,

the QRP-Minimal Art-SESSION (MAS) at Ascension Day is an eye-winking
challenge to make qso with rigs as simple as possible. You are invited to
prepare your participation with a TRX (resp. TX & RX) out of not more than
100 components (Class A) or a TX out of not more than 50 comp.(Class B).

Normally you have to send a circuit diagram of your station with
components numbered along with your log entry.

BUT: Here is an updated list of articles describing equipment which I
found suitable for the QRP-MAS.
If you will use a TRX, TX or RX listed here it will NOT be necessary for
you to send a circuit-diagram along with your MAS entry:

           YOU SIMPLY CAN REFER TO THIS LIST IN YOUR LOG!

           (what makes especially logs per e-mail much easier)

So, instead of a drawing e.g.just tell: "My TX was a Mighty Mite with 8
components like in SPRAT 105". Minor modifications also can be described by
words.

Of course the equipment listed here is fine with OQRP-Contest and HOT-Party
as well !!

the QRP-CONTEST-COMMUNITY invites you to take part in the

This is a proposal of new MAS rules from 2011 on.

Challenge: Contacts shall be made using simple rigs built by the operator
           himself, and from as few components as possible.

Date:     2nd June 2011 (Ascension Day), 1600-2200 UTC
          --------------------------------------------

MODE      Single-OP CW, output <5W or input <10W

QRG:      80m-CW-subband, recommended: Around 3560 kHz
          40m-CW-subband, recommended: Around 7030 kHz / 7160 kHz

CALL:"cq mas" or simply "mas de"

CLASS A:  RX+TX or TRX consisting of not more than 100 components
CLASS B:  TX consisting of not more than 50 components, Â RX as you like
CLASS C:  RX+TX or TRX consisting of not more than 100 components,
          max 1 integrated circuit!

EXCHANGE: RST/Class and number of components, e.g.: 559/B25
          feel free to exchange name and small talk)

QSO-Points: A QSO scores 1 point. The adjudicator will award 4 points for a
            QSO with another MAS-stn whose log has been received.
            Points from both bands will be added.

BONUS:    You will get bonus-points in percentages if you stay below the
          limit of components permitted for your class, e.g. using a TRX
          made from only 50 components in class A (max. 100) will boost
          your final score by 50%. The same goes for a TX of only 25
          components in class B (max. 50). A TRX made from 80 parts or
          a TX made from 40 parts will yield a bonus of 20%.

Components are resistors, capacitors, coils, diodes, transistors, valves
(multiple sections count per section, e.g. ECL86 = 2), crystals, ceramic
resonators etc. Commercially made filters count one per pin.

Any selective network in the TX output stage will be assumed and counted as a
3 parts PI filter. For a better suppression of harmonics you are free to use
more components - they will not be counted. RX input networks will also be
counted as 3 components.

These parts do not count:

Plugs, binding posts, knobs, sockets, housing, switches, relays, power supply,
headphones, speakers, key, antenna, etc.
Multiple coil windings on a SINGLE former count as 1 part.

ICs are permitted in classes A & B as long as YOU(!) can give a specification
of HOW MANY single components are integrated (e.g. LM386 = 20).

In class C a single IC is permitted. All connected pins count, but ground
and supply voltage pins only once.

Participation in class B is possible of course, if the RX part of a TRX uses
more components than permitted for class A.

LOGS: Columns: UTC, call of station worked, sent & received exchange.
      You are required to include a circuit diagram of your rig with
      parts numbered from left to right, and an IC data sheet if
      applicable (only in class A and B).

      Please make sure to include the circuit diagram, I don't have any of
      Hartmut's file.
